Pilgrimage to Uluru

Copper Coloured Mountain — Pure Land of Guru Rinpoche

12th September 2024 Uluru, Northern Territory, Australia

About This Pilgrimage

On 12th September 2024, a group of over forty pilgrims travelled together to Uluru in central Australia. Some Tibetan masters have identified Uluru as the Copper Coloured Mountain (Zangdog Palri) — the pure land of Guru Padmasambhava — making it an extraordinary sacred destination.

The main purpose of this spiritual journey was to pray for world peace. We performed the Tsok (feast offering) ritual on the 10th day of the lunar month, and performed the Lingdro Dechen Rolmo — a sacred dance and music ritual — in the presence of Uluru.

Uluru is formed from sandstone, stands 348 metres above sea level, and was formed around 550 million years ago. It holds deep significance in Aboriginal Dreamtime mythology, making it a place where geological wonder and spiritual power beautifully converge.

Uluru (Uluṟu) is believed to be the Copper Coloured Mountain (Zangdog Palri) — the pure land of Guru Padmasambhava. A group of over forty pilgrims travelled to this sacred Red Rock in central Australia for three days. Located in the indigenous area of northern Australia, some Tibetan masters have identified this place as Copper-Colored Mountain, considering it very important and extraordinary.

The main spiritual purpose of this trip was to pray for world peace. We held a Tsok (feast offering) on the 10th day of the lunar month, and the main event was the performance of the Lingdro Dechen Rolmo — a sacred dance and music ritual. We pray that the enlightened activities of the precious Dharma Lord spread throughout the three realms.

Uluru is a famous mountain in central Australia, of great cultural and religious importance to the local Aboriginal people. This red sandstone mountain changes colour from deep red to orange with the sunlight. It stands 348 metres above sea level. Scientists estimate it was formed around 550 million years ago, with its current shape formed about 300 million years ago. In Aboriginal oral history, it was formed during the "Dreamtime" — a foundational era in their creation mythology.
